No Posting Of Corps Members to Volatile Area-Plateau

No member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), serving in Plateau would be posted to crises-ridden areas, Mr Abdulsalam Alhassan, the state’s coordinator, has said. File: NYSC members Alhassan told newsmen on Monday in Mangu that the measure became necessary to ensure that no corps member became a victim of attacks on rural communities. “In our bid to protect the corps members, we have resolved that no one will be posted to volatile areas. “We have also resolved that corps members will only be posted to local governments considered safe and reachable. “We are working closely with the Department of State Security Service; we have requested clarifications in respect of areas considered safe ahead of the postings after the ongoing orientation exercise,” he said. Members of the tricycle operators’ association in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, has embarked on a protest over allegations of extortion by men of the Nigeria Police Force, a situation which brought activities in Maiduguri to a standstill. The protesters, whose demonstration caused traffic jam along major roads in the Borno state capital, are demanding that the police must be impressed upon to stop unnecessary extortion of their members. The tricycle riders, popularly called Keke operators, said they embarked on peaceful protest by boycotting operations Monday along Baga road, and other major roads following the continued “harassment, intimidation and extortion” they face at the hands of men of the Nigeria Police Force. According to Umar Usman, a tricycle operator in Maiduguri, some uniform personnel even arrested them and took them to police station when they refused to give them money. Former Ogun Deputy Governor joins the Governorship Race

A former deputy governor in Ogun State, Senator Adegbenga Kaka, has declared his intention to join the governorship race in the state. He made the declaration on Monday at the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State council secretariat at Oke Ilewo, Abeokuta. He said as Ogun State “stands today, there is ample room for improvement in agriculture, education, healthcare, employment and empowerment of our youth and female folks, rural development, sports and tourism. “I am your man, I have the experience, the integrity and commitment.” he added. Kaka was the deputy to the former governor of the state, Chief Olusegun Osoba, and a former Senator who had represented Ogun East in the upper chamber.
